Do you have a boudoir shoot coming up?
I LOVE boudoir shoots! I'm excited for my personal one that's coming up this weekend! And over the years, I have tried different things prepping for a boudoir shoot. As a photographer and a fellow boudie shoot lover, here's a list of my Do's and Don'ts to help you prepare for your first session!
Do's
Make a playlist.
I love a good playlist. Create a playlist that makes you feel happy, upbeat, and like a baddie! I love playing music in my sessions so I put together a playlist of my favorite songs that get me hyped for a boudie session. Here's the link to my BOUDIE PLAYLIST. If you have a playlist you love, feel free to share it with me and we can play it during our session!
Pamper yourself
I recommend getting your hair and make up professionally done if you can. If not, no worries, take some time leading up to your shoot to practice your hair and makeup! I caution that you do not try new skincare products just in case your skin flares up.
Go shopping
Find something that you know you will be comfortable in! Whether it's a new lingerie set, high waited bottoms, an oversized plain tee, or a button down! Just as long as you feel comfortable and confident in it! If it's something that you find yourself adjusting constantly, it won't be as enjoyable! Can't decide on what to bring? Bring them all! We love options!
Stretch & Hydrate
I cannot stress this enough. Leading up to your shoot, you want to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Not only will you get they dewy glow, but you'll also be sweating moving from pose to pose. Which brings me to my next point - stretching. If you can, get a good stretch session in before & after your session your session. You'll be arching your back, popping your booty, moving your body and you do not want to go into the session with super cold muscles.
Don'ts
Do not crash diet.
You want to feel your best leading up to your shoot and crash dieting will only just make you feel worse. Maintain being healthy, hydrated, and active. Be sure to eat something light but filling - you don't want to be hangry.
Don't apply thick layer of sunscreen. *
If your shoot calls for a direct flash for an indoor session*, I recommend only putting on a really light layer of SPF. When a flash fires straight onto your face, the reflection back to the camera (or "flashback") can make you look powdery or ghosty.
DOn't Wear tight fitting clothing.
Wearing tight clothing like jeans and bras can sometimes leave marks on your skin.
Don't spray tan.
Spray tans often make it's way to the creases of your skin and sometimes can appear uneven or even blotchy.
Boudoir shoots are meant to be fun and empowering. If you're nervous, don't worry - I still get nervous before my own boudoir shoots - that's totally normal. Give yourself some grace, some words of affirmation, maybe a meditation session to relax.
Just focus on having fun and remember that this session is all about you.
xo.
